SUPERVISED PRACTICE SESSION

What is a practice session?
A practice session gives dancers a chance to practice on a spacious dance floor.
Pre-recorded music is continuously played.
The music has been carefully selected by the moderator for danceability
and adherence to the rhythm requirements for each dance.
Can anyone attend?
Absolutely. Usually couples attend, but having a partner is not a requirement.
What music is played?
The 3:30pm to 5pm session has music for Standard Ballroom/Smooth dances:
Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Slow Foxtrot and Quickstep.
The 5pm to 6:30 session has music for International Latin/Rhythm dances:
Cha Cha, Samba, Rumba, Paso Doble, Jive, Swing, Mambo and Bolero.
Price:
$10 per person for one session
$15 per person for both sessions
International Style Ballroom Lessons

7 pm Lesson: Bronze/Silver Level*
*While the 7pm class is bronze, it is not a beginner class for brand new dancers.
Brand new dancers should seek beginner or pre-bronze classes.
Students will get more out of this class if they have at least 6-12 months
of social dance classes/experience.
8pm lesson: Advanced/Gold Level
Lessons are progressive. Each month a new series starts.

Progressive 8 week series of classes with emphasis technique, syllabus & styling.
*Technique and drill exercises to beautify & strengthen your Latin dancing.
The class will focus on detailed aspects of technique,
incorporating arm styling and spins to create exciting, dynamic dance routines.
No partner required. All levels are welcomed!!

Ultraviolet Germicidal Irradiation (UVGI) lamps
provide Air Disinfection, applying intense UV energy
to inactivate airborne pathogens (including viruses)
as they flow within the HVAC ducts at Hollywood Ballroom.
The UV purification system was installed April 5, 2021.
The Ballroom has also upgraded the filtration system’s filters to MERV-13
to help give our customers the cleanest air quality.

There is no standard naming convention for the dance steps, but this list will provide a sense of what is involved for each dance.
We hope this list will help you understand what the different ballroom dances are about
and perhaps encourage you to develop your dance repertoire and your own figures.

We will celebrate New Year’s Eve in style, as we have for many years.
We will have wonderful music and wonderful dancers.
(Dinner is not included this year.)
This is a formal event. Men must wear suits or tuxedos; women evening gowns.
We want to keep our customers healthy, so all covid restrictions apply.
Because of covid restrictions, attendance is limited to 40 customers.
The cost is $40 per person
Necessary Policies
The following policies are in place for everyone’s protection:
• You must not have left the Washington DC and Baltimore metro areas since December 1. If you do, do not attend this dance;
Nothing will elevate your dancing like private lessons
from the best instructors.

Cha Cha LESSON
AUGUST 16, 2020
This Sunday, August 16, Catherine Noblitt will teach a Cha Cha class, from 7 to 8 pm.
As we proceed cautiously in the current environment, Catherine’s class will be limited to 15 couples who agree to dance exclusively.
There will be no changes in partners. Singles may partner with someone if both agree to dance exclusively during the lesson.
Couples will be spaced at least six feet apart, using two rows.
